Credit Reports

Credit Reports

I just received my credit report as part of the annual credit report period. I have 3 negatives on there. The only problem is I didn't even know they existed! One was from a credit card I had when I was 17 that was paid off and, to my knowledge, closed over a year ago. The other two are from hospital emergency room visits. Now, the deal here is that at the time I went into the hospital my insurance rates went up before I was notified. (I was sent a letter 3 months after said hospital visits with an apology for the delay.) So I went to the hospital and paid the difference and was told everything was fine. Now I see that the two bills went to a collection agency that never even contacted me. I know you can dispute these things but I'm not even sure where to start. Do I contact the hospital, collection agency or the credit reporting agency? Any help would be greatly appreciated. The good thing is I have 8 student loan accounts that are in great standing but these three stains seem to overshadow them. I'm a little afraid to dispute them because I don't want the companies who I appear to "owe" to blast me on my credit report making this even worse. FYI: For those of you who want your credit report. You can get it for free from all three national companies at Annual Credit Report.Com. It's the law for you to be able to get this free once a year. :)
