Credit reports?

Credit reports?

I have a question (please forgive if it's obvious, but I'm concerned) I'm a full-time university student and I work part-time. I'm moving out in the fall with a friend for the first time, and am doing some research on apartments (I live in Salt Lake City, Utah). I'm seeing many apartments do credit checks, which leads me to my worry. I work at a credit union so I can see my score. It's a C (and a 0) because I've never had any kind of credit. If I need to make big ticket purchases like tuition I use my parent's cards and write them a check. Will this be a problem when renting a place? And if it will be, how should I go about raising my score? The credit union I work at offers credit cards and overdraft lines of credit-- should I be taking advantage of those? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. xD
