I planted both regular cucumbers and pickling cucumbers in my garden this year, and I'm having the same issue with both of them. Some of the cukes are coming out completely normal (and delicious!) but many are growing short and round. With my larger cucumbers, I'm also seeing a lot of yellow or orange colored round cucumbers. I know it's not that the seeds got mixed up with another variety, since the same plants are producing normal looking ones. We have a clay soil and I wasn't able to amend it much. Some of the plants do get some standing water around them after hard rains (which I've tried to divert away from them as much as possible) but I'm not seeing a correlation between standing water and the round fruits - it's also happening on the plants on the higher ground. I tried to figure out what is going on by searching Google, but with no luck. Help, anyone? Thanks!
