Cutting the rose bushes
Today in my garden, after much hesitation and a deep breath, I pruned down my rose bushes. I went to a free workshop in my neighborhood nursery on Rose Pruning. I found that I wasn't alone in feeling intimated about cutting down those canes. I'm in Seattle and our winter has been pretty mild. My rose bushes were setting out leaves already! When our instructor cut down the first stalk, I couldn't believe it. It seemed like too much! I think I physically winced. Anyway, I still felt hesitant on my own but I did it. Soemtime this week I will fertilize the rose bushes and also add some compost. I am a beginner gardener, if you couldn't tell by my post! I didn't get as much done as others in this community, but I'm pretty proud of my efforts today!
