I owe my bank about $250 - it is a business only acount but in free checking format (in case you all are wondring it is Washington Mutual). [Background: I am in between switching businesses and trying to get my insurance license, and the State of California requires people to pay so much into taking an exam and all the requirements.] Now this morning, I received a phone call to my CELL PHONE, from a debt collection agency. I never get any calls like that from my cell phone. I dont know how they got my contact number but the phone number I had provided to the bank is our home number. I have applied for a job at the local pet store as a temp/seasonal cashier and I really dont care what job I get into at this point because something needs to be paid off, preferrably by the end of this week or next week. I am having a hard time trying to get cash for bills- we have cancelled our health insurance policy (hubby and I) and we still dont have enough to pay it off. It seems that everytime we try to put money into that business account, the bank chrges us another $25 for each transaction (even depositing money!) as long as it is in the negative. Now, I am alarmed by the phone call and a bit confused at how this works- Do I pay the debt collection agency??? Or do I pay off the debt from the bank only??? I am hoping that by next week we pay it off, or else I am toast. Also, if I dont pay the debt, what will happen to me??? I dont even care about my credit history or report these days because the debt from the bank has ruined it, and my credit card is not being paid off right now becuase we do need to eat at home somehow.
