Debt collectors and daughter’s money.

Debt collectors and daughter’s money.

I just had a baby girl and my grandmother sent her a $100 check. We are VERY poor, so my husband has been spending all of the money people have given for the baby on other stuff. I know it's stuff we need, but I really want SOMETHING to go to my daughter. Well, hubby doesn't know I have this check. What I want to do is deposit it in a secret bank account that I have (I opened it a while ago when I bought a used car - I had to open a savings account with the bank that issued the loan and keep $100 in it at all times) so that I'll have some money saved up for my daughter when she's older. I want a place to put money away for her future, but I don't want my husband finding out about it. The problem is that we have a LOT of debt collectors after us from something bad that happened to us a few years ago when hubby lost his job and we lost our home and everything we had. I'm really scared that they will find my bank account and take all of my baby's money. Is there anything I can do to keep her money safe, but still make it accessible to myself in case there's an emergency? If I put it in her name only, will the bank let me do that? Does my name still have to be on it? Will I be able to access it and can the collectors take it from her?
