DUNE!!!

DUNE!!!

Giant worms unearthed in Australia! Not a headline from The Star, The Globe or another supermarket tabloid, but a bit of real news from author and earthworm advocate Amy Stewart of Eureka, CA. Stewart wrote the definitive book on the wrigglers, "The Earth Moved" (Algonquin), and now reports that a road work crew has exposed, "a colony of the rarely seen giant Gippsland earthworm." These unique earthworms can grow to several feet in length, some reportedly reaching 13 feet and weighing nearly 2 pounds. Stewart says filmmaker David Attenborough was at the scene and will feature the giant earthworms, which live deep in the earth and rarely come to the surface, in an upcoming BBC documentary. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *blink* Giant worms? I think the robins would think twice about tackling one of those things.
