Duvet Covers

Duvet Covers

A person mentioned their lovely washing trick for down comforters, so i thought I would share a little neat project my boyfriend and I did over the winter to cure boredom- it was in budget living once, but we lost the magazine and had to improvise. My father is a journalist, and lots of random free stuff is sent our way- mainly oversized weird t-shirts. So we cut out the design (normally the front) in big 12x12 blocks and sewed them together-- (secret of the boyscouts coming up)-- with dental floss! Then we tacked a sheet one size larger onto the back, and voila: duvet cover, for free. Unwaxed/unflavored dental floss was a perfect option for sewing, because it has way less breakage and can stand up to the tossing and turning of an insomniac (me!) It is a cute project, and it looks really neat. I get tons of compliments on it!
