I am currently in New York from Portland, Oregon, visiting friends and just checking out the scene. Yesterday I was walking with my boyfriend and another buddy and I notced a small woodland garden cramped between two buildings. I saw trees, bleeding hearts, hellebores, a pond, and… a big fence. Luckily, A man named Joseph and his trusty dog Falstaff were there and welcomed us in to what we learned was a community effort of over 30 years.
As Jospeh was talking about the garden and how it brought him close to nature in a way that nothing ever had, I realized what a special place this must be to the people who take care ofit.
The funny thing to me was that many of the plants are the same as what grows rampantly in my yard back home!
Not the best quality, but it gives you a feel for the place.
