Elephant Ears…

Elephant Ears…

I, like many many gardeners in my area (upper Kentucky, zone 6) have a mass planting of elephant ears and banana trees in my yard. These plants seem to do really well here, especially since it's so unbelievably humid. I have done the banana trees before and I know that I will eventually need to dig them up and bring them inside. I have had luck potting them indoors for the winter, and also with wrapping them up and putting them in the basement. No problems there.... However, this is the first year I've had luck with the Elephant ears. I bought a big bag of them from Lowe's for $12, thinking none of them would come up... and I got lucky and was very wrong. I have read on line that I need to take these up and store them inside until next year, but I'm not sure if it's necessary. Winters have been very mild the past couple years here it seems and I'm curious if I can just mulch over them and be okay? Any Kentucky gardeners on here experienced with these? Or someone not from Kentucky? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
