Fall Perennials?

Fall Perennials?

I thought I was in Zone 7 but apparently my zip code is a Zone 6. I’m thinking about perennials that are suitable for fall planting. Are there any other than hosta? I set some of those down last year and am happy with them but would like some variety other than spring blooming bubs. Also, I want to move the irises we have. I’ve never seen them bloom because they always get cut down along with the grass. Is there a way of planting them so they don’t look so tempting to our family weed whacker? I don’t want to go through the trouble of moving them if I’ll have the same problem with the unruly grass taking over.
