Filing free taxes- question.
Hello everyone. I've used the free tax filing through the IRS several times. I know that I will have to pay for filing my state taxes, because my state doesn't offer any free services... but I've always been able to file my federal for free. I know you have to go through the IRS website, which I did. I'm confused because I went through the Turbo Tax website, and got all the way to the end ready to file- and it said I had chosen direct deposit to recieve my refund asked me if I wanted to pay my federal filing fee as a credit charge or a deduction from my refund. I thought perhaps it was trying to charge me because I'd chosen direct deposit, so I went back to change that option and it said direct deposit was free- then I wondered if it was because I'd chosen efile for my federal taxes and paper for my state taxes. But when I chose to efile both, the same page came up... I wonder if anyone else has had this problem? Perhaps the charge isn't for federal but for state, and that was just a typo on the webpage? I've emailed them my question about this, but wondered if anyone else had come across this problem. Thanks very much.
