Finally some real success

Finally some real success

This is the fifth summer that I've been gardening and I finally have some real success. As a matter of fact I'm even at the gardener's panic point with cucumbers. Here is the August 4th harvest: And the August 9th harvest: There is way more out there. I've been buying some books and materials for food preservation. I want to store what I've grown as well as some things from the Farmer's Market. I made a wonderful veggie soup with celery, onion, potato, turnip, peppers, thyme, zucchini, yellow squash, and kale. It was great and I froze about four servings. There are also six jars of refrigerator dill pickles waiting for a hearty eater. Next I have to try some other pickling procedures because I've got too many of the little buggers. I have strawberries and blueberries in the freezer that I use on waffles or in smoothies during the winter. I also have been dying to try canning. I finally got all that I needed and made blueberry jam. All the cans sealed and the jelly seems to have jelled. I used no-sugar-needed pectin and a little bit of Splenda. It's pretty tart, but that's the way I like it. This weekend I want to go on an apple foraging trip so I can make some apple sauce, apple butter, and a tart apple pie. I have two trees in my yard and I've been eyeing some others by the side of the road that never get picked. I need someone with a stout heart who isn't afraid of a little public ridiculousness. --
