Finding an apartment — uber cheap or uber chic?

Finding an apartment — uber cheap or uber chic?

I'm facing sort of an apartment crisis. I've looking for apartments and am finding really nice apartments (however slightly more than I want to spend) and rather small, dingy apartments that's best feature is the price. I always go for the cheap apartment and always move as soon as possible. So my question is, is it ever *worth* it to pay extra rent or is it better to save $200+ and be able to afford more 'fun' activities? Notes: * I live in Cincinnati where housing ranges from super cheap ($300) to super expensive ($1200+) for a one bedroom. * The nicer apartments mentioned are still in the 25-30% gross income range.
