Our local food bank has a 20$ food box that gives you LOTS of food. I got a pound of bacon, a pound of ground beef, 5 pounds of chicken breasts, a pound of thin sliced pork chops, 3 pounds of crispy chicken. In another box I got two jars of peanut butter, two boxes of rice, two boxes of mac and cheese, beans, canned pears (two cans), two canned peas, cans of tomato sauce and 2 pounds of spaghetti. Also canned tuna which my family doesn't like. In a third box I got fresh vegetables, a huge bag os salad, a huge bag of shredded carrot (which I am making into carrot soup today),a head of cabbage, some yams (about 5 pounds of them), onions, and lots of oranges. In a fourth box I got a big apple crisp pie which basically went to waste because I can't eat it, and my kids didn't like it. Weird kids. Bread out the ears (6 loaves) which I froze. english muffins and tortillas. In a fifth box there were diet peach iced teas, two 6 packs, which I drank despite being LDS (Bad me), and lots of baked chip packages. Two boxes of chocolate chip cookies which my children scarfed. You didn't have to give your income you just had to write your name, the number of people in your family and your zip code. There were no limits on the number of packages you could get. Great deal. I have never spent 20 dollars that went so far. EDITED: To add, I am in the Phoenix Arizona area. The food bank is on Dysart road.
