Hello, My question has to do with re-using freezer bags and other zip lock storage bags. My hubby and I freeze a lot of meat, hamburger meat, chicken, sausages... A pack of freezer bags costs almost $4.00, sometimes less.... I reuse ziplock bags that I used on dry goods, cookies, snacks, etc Even if I have lettuce or something "wet-ish" in a ziplog bag, after the bag is empty I leave it open to air dry and use it again. I would like to reuse the bags I have frozen meat in but I worry about bacteria. Even if I let the bags air dry, they are still a bit greasy and I worry about bacteria. I can't beleive I have to throw these freezer bags out after one use. I try not to do that with anything! In the past, I have wrapped meat in aluminum foil before putting it in the ziplock freezer bags but it creates a lot of aluminum foil waste and it's a hassle to take off. I could use soem advice on how to make the freezer bags last longer. Any cleaning tips? Drying tips? Should I wrap the meat in wax paper? Would that freeze ok? Am I being paranoid about bacteria growth? what else could I use to freeze meat besides plastic zippy bags? Any other ideas/experiences with re-using plastic zippy bags (for meat, or wet or dry goods) would be great! Thank you!
