Freezing a dinner question

Hi All! I'm an amateur in the kitchen trying to get better, and I just had an idea. I'm just wondering if anyone here would know if this would work. Would it work out well to make up a family sized pot pie in a standard pie dish and then freeze it for another time? If I did this, should I not cook it (cook any meats in it, but otherwise not bake it) before freezing it? Or should I freeze it after cooking it? Or would this just end up a disaster? Thanks in advance if anyone has some advice for a girl struggling to make it work in the kitchen! :)
