Front yard orchard?
My husband and I both like fruit trees and now that my garden is established (or at least as established as it can be given the weather) I'm contemplating turning part of the front yard into an orchard. We live on a corner so we have a lot of front yard - and a lot of grass. My very nebulous idea so far is to have 3-5 trees (depending on type and if we get dwarfs) and lots of shrubs/herbs/flowers and such filling out the rest of the space to eliminate the grass on that side of the house. I've tried searching the internet to find pictures or guides for landscape planning but most of them seem to just have a bed by the house then loads of grass. Since it's in the front I feel a lot more pressure to have it look pretty right away (or as quickly as possible) and I also don't want to just buy some trees, plunk them in the yard, and then go "um, what now?" Do any of you know of resources that might help get me started? FWIW, I probably won't be able to do this project till next year financially but I'd like to plan and save before then.
