Frozen a/c pipes?
For the last week or so we have been wondering why our air conditioning in our apartment hasn't been working. Today my boyfriend pulled the intake air vent off and found that our filter was disgusting. We cleaned it up as best we could and put it back and it still wasn't working. My boyfriend and roommate looked at the pipe and found that the cover over the pipe that was meant to keep it from freezing has several breaks in it and that there is ice caked in several places on the pipe. Basically we think that the filter being dirty caused the pipes to freeze. We need this to get fixed, but we are afraid that management is going to place the blame on us and we can't afford to fix this. We can't prove that the holes were there before we moved in, as it wasn't even something we thought to check. (Boyfriend and mentioned roomie moved in only a few months ago and management doesn't know about them either) and the other roomie and I are 20 year olds without a clue. Apparently my boyfriend is taping up the pipe with duct tape right now as I type this, but we need to know what could happen if we call our landlord. Any advice or opinions we'd be more than grateful for.
