frugal laptops?

frugal laptops?

I figured you guys would know better than anyone... My computer is on the rocks and has been for the past year (It's an HP... I got it when I was in HS in 2000... It has like 64 mb of RAM and I can only run ME on it.. sad, I know) and I'm seriously considering in investing in a laptop (as opposed to buying a desktop.. I've been writing a lot and would like to be able to lug my laptop around with me!!).. the thing is, I'm not willing to spend more than 600 on it, and it absolutely has to run XP on it and have wireless capabilities so that I can use my Ipod on it. So I'm wondering.. what is the best deal? I know I can get a laptop for 600 bucks, my friends have done it before. Does anyone have any good suggestions? I know a little about computers but not much... I know that companies like emachines make shit systems and I know I could look into refurbs but the ones I've seen are only several years newer than mine and don't run on XP.(they are cheap but aren't really what I'm looking for) I also am wary of trusting ebay to buy a cheaper system but I suppose it's possible... Has anyone had to deal with this situation before? I'm willing to wait another couple months but I figure I'd start my research now. Thanks guys!
