Fuss Free Ground Cover?

Fuss Free Ground Cover?

I had a great set of garden beds at my husband's house. The relationship ended, but we are still friends. I'd like to plant something there that will not take much effort to maintain, so the backyard does not get taken over by weeds and displease the neighbors. If it produces food, that's great. I can probably come by and tend it once a week. Could sweet potoatos do this job? I've heard they grow on trailing vines that root down into potatoes. What about strawberries? I already have a thriving bed of strawberries that makes gazillions of babies.
