Took some photos of my garden last night that I wanted to share with you all :) First off though, I was wondering if anyone could help me identify this plant: It's got big green berries of some sort (that the little red bugs seem to enjoy!) and also nasty spiney thorns. I was weeding around it, and it jabbed me a few times, and I couldn't decide whether I should just rip it out too, or if it was something worthwhile to keep. half of my backyard- view from my deck. The three raised beds behind the tree were *full* of 5 foot tall weeds. (and a few struggling volunteer tomatos) That was my big morning task today. I got them all cleared out! I'm going to move the tomatoes into one of them and plant the others with corn and beans. Here's the other half of the backyard. Got a *lot* of weeding still to do on this side. :P Those are all raspberries in that left hand bed though! I could figure out why the raspberries in the lower left hand corner of this picture were so weird and crunchy and unripe when the ones in the upper right were so nice and getting ripe. Then I figured out, doh, those are blackberries! heh. my gooseberries. People keep telling me I can make a lovely pie out of these, but I'm not sure I'll have enough of them for that. :) Even so, how do I know when they are ripe, since they always taste tart and sour?
