Gardening as a hobby

Hi, I am a zone 5 gardener up in Michigan, formerly from z7 Baltimore, so its been fun learning what will work from home and what just won't - (yay lupines and delphinium! Boo losing crepe myrtles!) I used to work in the industry (now I'm a professional student) and frankly I'm having a lot more fun gardening as a hobby! Here is what the back of the house looked like when we bought it in 2006: And what it looked like once we started the square foot gardening bed this year in May. You can see the little transplants making their merry way towards actual plant status, and not much else going on: And what it is looking like now (July): Sooo many veggies!!! We have been harvesting herbs, collards, peas, zukes, radishes, and turnips for weeks! So excited it actually worked! The front experienced a similar transition. When we bought it it was kind of boring: But we changed it to this as of early this year (we dug it and planted it last fall): And adding a little Japanese maple and some of her friends:
