This weekend I managed to get an area roughly the size of a twin bed denuded of grass and skunk vine, then covered with newspaper and cardboard. Slowly but surely my messy back yard is going to match my front, with its happy beds of tropicals over mulch. It was a really nice weekend for working out side, and while I was out there, I discovered that my Passiflora edilus had it's first blooms, and that my Kaempferia rotunda is blooming. It makes these georgous purple and white blooms that come out of the bare earth, rather like the curcumas do. It's astartling but beautiful effect. I cleared around it and just sat and celebrated it for a while. Then I spread some zinnia seeds and some gailardia seed in those front, mulched beds, and put some morning glory seeds in water to soak. I'll plant them in a few hours, when I get home. After I grab more buckets of mulch and nail down yesterdays papers.
