gas vs. diesel
we are in the market for a new-esque car. i want a station wagon. i needs to fit my two boys, eventually a dog, and the foreseen hockey equipment and any and all treasures i find while dumpsterdiving. i put about 300miles a week on my car. so my options are a suburu, a volvo or a volkswagon. (you couldnt pay me to drive an american car). whatever we get would be the "family" car and would be driven into the ground. (my husband is looking into getting a motorcycle to take to work). lately ive been seeing older model toyota/honda station wagons. i wish they still made those! everyone i know loves their suburu, but the gas mileage is so-so. the german cars are generally more expensive, and more expensive to repair - but usually dont break down as often, and i could get a diesel model - better gas mileage and there is a bio-diesel pump near me. (eventually i would love to get a conversion kit so it could run off waste oil). anyone have experience with either cars or diesel models?
