Gerber Daisies and Sunflowers

Gerber Daisies and Sunflowers

First of all, hi. :) Just joined the comm because I've *finally* started to get some things done with our embarrassment of a yard and I really have less than half a clue as to what I'm doing. Anyway... Two days ago, my in-laws helped me transplant some gerber daisies that were growing randomly in my back yard. Almost immediately, the blooms (stems included) wilted, though the flowers themselves still appear bright and not exactly dead, just limp. The leaves of the plant seem to be doing OK so far. Did we screw them up? Or is this normal behavior for a transplanted flower? Is it likely that the current blooms will die and then bloom again? I'm really sad that they're doing so badly, as they were really beautiful - blooms larger than my hand and bright orange. Also, I bought some mammoth sunflower seeds because I've always really wanted to grow some. I've been trying to remember to keep track of areas outside that would be ideal (aka, get a lot of sunlight), and I was curious... how much sun, exactly, do they need? I assume afternoon sun would be best as it's hotter (or am I making that up)? But can they live if they are shaded at all during the day? So far, I've narrowed down one spot that gets sun pretty much all day and would be an acceptable spot for them to grow as far as visual appeal goes. I'd have so many more options if my husband would cut down the dying trees already, but I digress...
