Germination of a fellow gardener

Germination of a fellow gardener

My OH has been enjoying the produce from my Lottie for some years now. She's been contributing her carpentry skills (as a retired farmer, she really does have those skills) and last season she got enthusiastic about weeding, path-strimming and slug-killing. She purchased and installed 2 greenhouses for me. But the actual gardening part - managing the soil, tending the plants - has been my job. She refuses to go to Lottie if the weather isn't pleasant. I can see her point of view after decades of milking cows and caring for sheep 365 days a year. But this spring she's all excited about my germinating baby seedlings. I've heard her talking to them. She's all excited about my composting now that she's helped me spread some of the finished wonder on Lottie's soil. She's all excited about muck-spreading too, even though she did so much of it in her tractor-driving days and she's glad to leave that behind. What really did surprise me was last night when she asked for a sketch-plan of the site, labelled with which beds need liming and which need fish, blood and bone, and how much they need. And today, she's been out there spreading those things on the soil. I think she's been bitten by the gardening bug :-)
