gifting a car without it affecting the giftee :)

gifting a car without it affecting the giftee :)

My husband wants to buy a new car. Currently, he drives a 1996 Accord in pretty good shape. It's in good shape because my uncle, an auto mechanic, has fixed a number of things on it over the past couple of years, for the cost of only parts. Super nice of him, as it's saved us a ton of money.

My uncle LOVES my husband's car, as my uncle likes "old beaters" so to him, my husband's car is nicer than anything he's ever driven. We'd like to surprise my uncle by giving him the Accord as a gift when we buy the new car. We know he'd love it, as he always jokes with my husband that if he could afford it, he'd buy the Accord out from under him.

Is there a way to give my uncle the car so that he wont have to pay taxes on it? Are we allowed to give it to him/sell it to him for like a dollar without it negatively affecting him OR us financially? We'd like to make this as painless as possible for my uncle.

Thanks for the advice :)
