good banks are hard to find
I just wanted to say that anyone who's maybe not the best in the whole world at keeping a 100% positive bank statement, you might want to try Academy Bank. Out of all the bank accounts, I've had, Academy Bank is the best I've ever found and I've been banking with them for two years. I like them because 1- Many of them are open 7 days a week. 2- They do cash advances for $20 w/ direct deposit (which you can take out of the ATM, you don't even have to go to the bank). 3- I don't think they've EVER "held" my deposits (even with personal checks) for any number of days like other banks do. 4- Overdraft fees are $20, which is a lot less expensive than other bigname banks. They also don't keep charging you over and over the longer it remains unpaid. 5- They really try to work with you if things aren't going that well. I recently had a premature baby and was hospitalized for a few weeks before & after, so my bank account was in the negative for quite a while and when I got out they called me and told me instead of it going to collections, they were willing to give me a loan to pay off the overdraft and then I could pay it back over time. 6- They don't do credit checks when you open an account.. pretty much anyone even with a bad history can open a checking account, especially if you have direct deposit. It's a small banks and they have limited locations, but other than that, they have everything a big bank does (online banking, etc) without raping your wallet every chance they get. Just thought I'd share.
