Grape vine cuttings

Grape vine cuttings

Hi! I'm new to this group, I found it through Apartment gardening. This is my first post and I have a few questions. OK, I'm dying to grow grapes, however, I have a few issues. First, I'm living in a rented house so I can't plant anything permanent that I would like to take with me. My landlord/ roommate has no problem with me planting most things, but he just doesn't want anything that will spread too much or take a lot of maintenance. He did tell me about the grape vine his brother has on his property that is an heirloom grape vine that was brought over to the U.S. by his family from Sicily. He has no idea what kind it is, but he said if I like, I can take a cutting. Here are my main issues. 1. How do I go about taking a cutting and establishing it? 2. How big of a pot will I need once I do get it going? 3. How long can I keep it in a pot before I will have to plant it into the ground? We're planning to move into an apartment of our own soon (in the next year or so) and stay there for a couple of years before we buy a house. Normally I would just go over to his brother's house and pick my fill, but I've seen his yard. Heh. Overgrown is being nice. And I'm terrified of Poison ivy and it's brothers, and I don't want to have to fight weeds and bugs. So I want to grow my own. Thank you in advance for any suggestions and advice.
