grass patching mold?

grass patching mold?

Hi; I'm new to gardening -- I just cleared out a flower bed full of weeds and morning glory, and got rid of a massive amount of dandelions in the front yard of my new apartment. Clearing out the dandelions left patches of open dirt amongst the grass, so I purchased a lawn patch kit with grass seed and fertilizer. I've been keeping the patches watered, and here in Seattle, we've had really warm sunny weather. Today I noticed that in one of the patches, there seems to be mold growing -- just a layer of soft fuzz, gray-green. I know that the fertilizer in the grass patch kit had a greenish tinge -- but this doesn't seem normal. I'm tempted to dig out the mold and the top layer of soil -- but I don't know whether what I'm seeing is actually part of the grass growing process. I'll try to post a picture later this morning, and I'm terribly sorry to post such a boring question, but does anyone else have any experience with this? Thanks in advance...
