Green things and Salutations…

Just found this group thought I'd join and say hello, but alos pose a few questions... I have a combination of lilacs and burning bushes on the east side of my house.. right now they are about 18" or so from the house so my questions are: 1) Should they be further out? My Burning bushes simply turn Fuscia in the fall :( Then again this will be the first full spring they will have been in the ground... 2) What sort of soil additives should I be using to help the lilacs out.. The bed is top soil with a nice base of compacted heavy clay underneath (ah I love Ohio soil.. no really) I heard they prefer alkaline soil and other than compost, should I be adding anything to the soil? 3) What would be a good ground cover, low growing perennial for the same soil conditions to grow in between the bushes? Danke :)
