Grocery epiphany: Ethnic markets

Grocery epiphany: Ethnic markets

So I noticed that ethnic markets are fabulous. Some things (coffee, produce) can be more expensive than a supermarket, but simple things like cooking oil and dry goods are a usually good deal.
also, dried beans! sometimes i can’t even find them in chain grocery stores.
but most of all, SPICES! huge bags of dried spices for a couple bucks, versus a tiny can at the big market for much more.
garlic in chopped and paste forms, too, for dirt cheap. this is even better than the spices because garlic is very good for you.

The one I’m talking about is an indian-mediterranean place. what sorts of finds have you made?
