harvesting ALREADY! ZONE 5
I decided I had to plant my snow pea seeds today, so I schlepped my over-winter stock of eggs shells, coffee w/ filter, etc. out to the composter too, then I figured I'd also plant my brassicas, so I got my wheel barrow and pitch fork and my favorite hoe. And all the broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, pak choi and carrot seeds. I had covered my garden last year with several inches of leaves and it was wet out there, sucking mud, cold, but it was Spring and I was determined to get started. I started checking out the lumpy places and found two smallish but well-formed turnips, a rutabaga that was too small to take last fall, and the brussels sprouts that I'd pulled out and left with the tiny sprouts on them that had wintered under the leaves and the sprouts had GROWN, so I got those, [I ate them for dinner, so good] and four baby cabbages I missed when harvesting last fall, I had onbe of those too, tender yummy, I am just tickled. I keep peeking out my window when taking a shower looking at my garden wishing, but today! YAY!
