Health insurance, absolutely oy
I know there are many others here who have health issues so I'm here with a bit of an issue. A little background: 23 year old grad student. I had a tumor removed from my breast last thursday (which came back as non-cancerous fibroadenoma! super woot!), which I'm sure you can imagine this involves many health care professionals. And, as expected, the bills are starting to roll in. I had an ultrasound, a mammogram and a biopsy, before even meeting with the surgeon. Then, the pre-op, op, and post-op appointments (4/8). My insurance paid part of the bill for the mammogram and the ultrasound but I think the bill I got yesterday is pertaining to the biopsy. With a lovely adendum that my health insurance is classifying it as a pre-existing condition. Uh-oh. So my question is, do I have any recourse? Yes, I did have this tumor before I was forced onto this health insurance (I was on the superwonderful state insurance, but my school forced me to take Aetena/The Chickering Group). I had given the doctors at my current hospital the films from a previous ultrasound, trying to get the best care possible, so this is unfortunately documented. I'm planning to go to the health center at school and talk to them about options, but wanted to hear from others, too. I feel like I'm looking into a big tunnel of debt named "boy am I screwed".
