Hello…

Hello…

I'm, obviously, new. I've been reading this journal for the past few days, and you all seem really helpful. I hadn't noticed this question before, and if I missed it I am sorry, and I'd appreciate it if you'd just link me to the old post. I'm...new...to gardening. I gardened with my father when I was younger, but I really don't know much about it now. I've owned my home for a little over two years, and had some extra money this year so I am finally trying to make it "pretty." I've done a few small plantings at the front of the house. I squared it off with large rocks, and filled it with mulch. I have an Evelyn rose (my aunt bought me, as it is my name) and some other plants. Now, at the very front of my yard I have two large pine trees. The yard looks just a mess under them. Obviously, I can't get grass to grow, what does grow is weeds, and then (of course) there are all the pine needles. Do you all have any suggestions as to what I can plant? I am in central Illinois which I *believe* is Zone 5b.
