The birds are eating my spinach! This has never happened before. This morning, I noticed that my spinach (unknown variety...an heirloom type, seeds given to me by a friend) looked a little nibbled on...but just the most underneath leaves were affected. Luckily, I was home and outside a lot and I saw the culprits. Little birds...maybe sparrows or wrens or something like that (but I really have no idea) hopping around and picking at my spinach! I chased them away a few times but they seemed to come right back. We were gone for a few hours this evening and I can tell from my porch that the spinach is not going to make it. What else do these little birds eat? Will they start getting my lettuce and other leafy greens? Is there anything I can do? I'm not above making a scarecrow. ETA: My husband says they are chickadees. And I did see signs of nibbling on my lettuces this evening (in a different part of the garden) Yikes!
