Help, anyone?

Help, anyone?

I hope you all don't mind a question from a plant newbie... I've recently bought some houseplants, having taken an interest in livening up the home - one is a white butterfly leaf, two are tiny parlor palms, & one is a crassula (I believe String o' Buttons). The crassula seems to have escaped any issues so far, but upon close inspection today the other three seem to be infested by bugs. Now one of the parlor palms, for sure, has gnat larvae... those little wormy things. I've found multiple in the soil. I know they eat dead plant matter, & will eventually hatch into annoying flies - will they kill the plant, though? Will repotting to weed out the larvae help? Or is a pesticide recommended? I'd like to know what some of you guys do, really. (: In the soil, there are also tiny little oval shaped red bugs scurrying about, with antennae & no other discernable features. There aren't very many, & they aren't on the leaves or stems of the plants... Just in the soil, mostly on the surface. Might they be spider mites? None seem to have congregated on the actual plant. I'm at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated, before I have to travel miles to the local nursery. XD -k
