so I have these plants in a garden that i didn’t grow from scratch myself. it’s my first spring and I can’t tell friend from foe. while i’ve found a lot of the perennial ground cover at local stores……………………no nursery or plant center i’ve been to has anything that resembles these two entities:
a fter uprooting one such “specimen a” a couple months ago, i’ve decided the only thing i can really do is let them grow and see what happens. but i’m getting impatient. so someone has to tell me if i should weed them out or not.
Are they weeds?!!!??
Specimen A multiplied like crazy this early spring, and were lettuce-y looking things for a long long time. They have been eaten by bugs….do weeds get their leaves eaten by bugs? I pulled out a dried out 4 foot tall pole from one of them that it had “blossomed” last year….

then they got really tall – like knee length, but still very lettuce-y.

and today, todayit must’ve been over 25 degrees and the middles have gotten purple colored and they’re beginning to….bloom something….

enter specimen B.
this one has also multiplied umpteenfold and occupies very densely packed areas…

and then bloomed into small mauve and fuscia flowers….pretty darn small considering how much girth the green parts of the plant take up.
