About 3-4 weeks ago ( I will get the exact day soon) I started my own garden. I instantly fell in love with it. I had been off of work so I had all the time in the world to tend to it. Feeding it and watering it all the time. Examining it and just taking it all in. I find it so relaxing. I feel like... "this is my garden!!". It's... refreshing... and healing...
This is the first picture I took, of a baby "red" pepper growing. It was the first of my plants to actually fruit. (well except for the gooseberries, they came good enough to eat!). I am a bit unsure about this pepper... because it is green. i'm not sure if they change colour as they grow... or if this, in fact, is a green pepper masked as a red one.
<lj-cut text="my garden and some questions :)>
Here are my banana peppers! 4 of them! Don't mind the weeds around them. Basically my whole backyard had to be dug out last year and therefore our garden too. It's all new soil and with new soil, I learned, comes weeds. I pulled out tons of them already today!
Here is a banana pepper up close. The front two plants have both sprouted peppers. Sorry this picture is sideways.... I don't know why livejournal turned it... help?
This is my gooseberry plant.. I love to eat them when they are green and sour! When they are purple/pink and ripe... they are too sweet for me.
My Strawberry plant is doing well except... there are no strawberries. We had this problem in the past! As soon as I notice little berries growing, something eats them! I need to research and find out if there is safe spray I can put on my plants... or maybe I should just give up on them :(
I have 3 blueberry plants! One of them has a lot of fruit... the others not so much...
These are my green peppers! It already has two peppers growing. I was reading and looking at pictures in some communities and it doesn't look like anyone puts cages around them... I was just worried that they'll start to get too heavy for the plant. They are odd in shape... but I love them :)
Yes yes my pumpkin plant. I believe it was bought by accident, lol, but I wanted to give it a try! How interesting! Firstly- let me say that as a pretty much first time gardener... I ignored the "place 3 meters apart", etc, warnings. I was like, "no way... that's too far apart". haha. I'm a rebel, who know's. So this beautiful plant is basically about to.... take over my whole garden. It's already starting to cover up my peppers, so I have to continuously move the leaves, and pretty flowers. Can I cut the leaves? Will that be really damaging? I'm afraid my other plants wont get sun! What I noticed today was that it has these long string stem things that wrap around everything around it and hold on for dear life! Amazing! It's like vines... and they are actually holding up part of the plant! I've never seen anything like it before! I'll take a picture later.
This is the same pepper from my icon. It has definitely grown, but it is growing slower then the other peppers. It looks so perfect tho- as if someone created the perfect pepper!
My beautiful zucchini plant! I was actually watching a cooking show the other day where the chef was talking about the plants flowers- saying that they were a delicacy! He put goat cheese inside of the flowers and deep fried them! Anyway an issue I noticed today is that inside one of the flowers is a bunch of black ants! They are walking up and down that one growing zucchini and into the flower and back down again. I'm so worried about it! Mostly because a bunch of red fucking ants destroyed this other beautiful plant I had. I don't know if black ants are an issue? I need to do research. Anyway it has been amazing watching this one grow- noticing how the zucchini actually forms and stuff! Once again, I planted it too close to everything! ah!
My beafsteak and Glamour tomatos! I will have o get a cage soon. I'm not familiar with that but I will do my research!
red chilies! I've been waiting for these ones patiently! I think they are what I'm most excited for!! However, they are the slowest to grow! They recently started to flower so I know I don't have that long to wait!
And interesting flower that we must have had in the past. I'm not sure what is it but it's like... coming out of the ground.
I planted this one and it instantly started to bend like that. I thought it was going to die but as it bent more sprouts came out and it fowers daily!
Red currents! These came from my gandparents backyard years ago! We saved them when they had to dig out my yard. They are slowly turning red! Delicious! Can't wait!
And finally... the sad sad pretty plant that was supposed to attract butterflies. It was totally destroyed by red ants. I should have bought a spray.
