Hi hi!

Hi hi!

I just wanted to quickly introduce myself before I got back to sulking in the background (heh!). I'm Alana, a 22 year old writer chick, currently living in Scotland but originally from Chicago - and I'm still getting used to the new climate. Gardening has always been a big part of my life. I'm the first generation born in the USA (my family were the last great 'wave' of immigration in 1951), so I grew up in backyards that closely resembled a sliver of Ukraine (an abundance of apple, pear, plum, and cherry trees, 1+ acre wide vegetable gardens, and poppies as far as the eye can see). I got the gardening itch when I was really young, running around my grandmother's massive vegetable garden barefooted (my husband doesn't believe me when I tell him how exhilarating it was to dig up FRESH potatoes for dinner) whilst chewing on tomatoes right off the vine. It carried on for years until moving here. My current home, unlike the states, has virtually no backyard. Added to the fact my father-in-law is a reputed UK Bonsai Master who seems to have little to no houseplant/gardening skills (he's nearly killed several of my plants within a few months). After a stressful winter I finally broke down and began buying houseplants to fill the gardening void (despite knowing my conditions weren't exactly conducive to the well-being of any plant), which ultimately led me to here. So, heh, it's nice to meet everyone, I've checked up on this community a few times, but only realized HOW to join it last night (I'm horribly oblivious like that). I'm so happy to find a like-minded community, especially one talking about growing vegetables in containers! MMmm, fresh tomatoes...
