high-efficiency laundry detergent

high-efficiency laundry detergent

Good morning everyone! Is there a way to save money on high-efficiency (HE) laundry detergent? Basically, my boyfriend and I only have access to a high-efficiency washer/dryer. While I'm happy for the environment, I'm sad for my wallet because daaaaaayum have you seen the prices of HE detergent?? The worst part is I can ONLY find name-brands in the HE formula, and those are hella-expensive. When I had access to a regular washer/dryer, I was using store brand detergent and dryer sheets (I needs me some soft clothing), so the price jump between name-brand and generic is making my eyes bug out. However, the washing machine's manual (yes, I read manuals- not breaking things is a poor skill, yais?) said that the machine was designed for HE detergents only (it's all about low-sudsing, apparently). So, I'd reeeaaaaally like to not break the machine and/or have a sudstastic explosion in the washer, but still save money because seriously, name-brands are expensive and *insert rant on paying for advertising/packaging*. So, are there cheaper/store brands that I'm just missing? So far I've only checked Wal-mart (I figure a Super-Walmart has eeeeverything) and found only name-brand HE detergents. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
