Holy Huckleberry Hound, Batman!
At the Chicago Flower and Garden show that has just passed, I happened upon a packet of seeds that I'd never seen before from any seed catalog. It was labeled "Garden Huckleberry" and since I have a weakness for any kind of berry, I had to try it. The packet suggests that it's as easy to grow as bush tomatoes and that even though it greatly resembles nightshade, it is quite edible and tasty. I was curious to know if anybody out there has any specific advice for this particular plant? I presume it's a member of the nightshade family if it both resembles nightshade and grows like a tomato, so I was planning on applying the same care that I give to my peppers and tomatoes. The packet recommends partial shade and to harvest the black berries after a light frost in October, but nothing else. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
