Hosta habits here in zone 7b– Long Island.
A general question about what I'm observing around my nabe. Last year I planted two hostas. Both died down to the ground this winter. Now one is growing many spikes out of the ground. The other is showing one single leave-- I'm hoping more will develop as spring progresses. Two doors down there is a garden with much older hostas. They are also sending spikes up-- more spikes in a bigger circle because they are much older and much bigger. My next door neighbor has a full leafed, beautiful hosta already out of the ground. How is that even possible? Did they go out and buy a hosta and plant it when no one was looking? Could it have survived the (long and very snowy) winter here? Some species of hosta that jumps up full grown?
