houseplant woes…

Spring is "right around the corner" in my zone, which means it'll probably be a couple more months before my hanging beauties can go outside. They're looking very sad, we don't get enough light throughout most of our house -- and despite my rotating their positions, they're looking very pale. (I water them as needed, which is quite frequently compared to most people. We heat our house with a wood stove, so the air is dryer than normal despite using a humidifier. They only get watered when they're dry, but it's probably once every 1-1.5 weeks.) I've been doing some reading about natural ways to fertilize house plants, but can't find anything very definite. I've run across information about using white vinegar, but I thought that was also used as a weed killer? I've also read about beer being "good" for them -- but not light beer, apparently plants have good taste!! Does anyone here have some recommendations for natural home remedies to perk up my house plants?
