how much to offer on a house?
I hope this is an ok place to ask this question, but it seems like as good a place as any... I am house-hunting and have found one on which I will probably like to make an offer. It's a foreclosure with a tax value roughly $120K to $130K (don't want to look it up right now). They were asking $110K and are now asking $104,800. I'm trying to decide which bank to use and how much to offer. My realtor suggested $99.5K, but of course her income depends on the selling price of houses. A friend says to really low ball it - maybe $95K max is what he suggests. The house is in fairly good conditions but has no appliances. I will, of course, have an inspector look at it and all, but it has little in terms of problems. This weekend, it and others in the area will be shown in public showings, and there will be an auction in a few weeks. I could certainly offer a smaller amount and have the seller make a counter-offer, but I don't want someone else to get it after seeing it this weekend. So what do you all think is an appropriate amount to offer?
