I feel like an idiot

I feel like an idiot

My husband and I bought our house in October. I raked the leaves in the front yard into two big piles, and didn't get around to picking them up. I did not rake the backyard at all. I've never had to deal with a yard with huge, leafy trees before. So, the leaves have clung to the grass, under many feet of snow all winter long. I don't know, I think I thought the leaves would just disintegrate under the snow. Obviously, I was wrong. So, now my backyard is just a brown sheet of dead, wet leaves. Grass pokes through here and there. Under the leaves, the grass is kind of brownish/greenish. Is my lawn going to be completely dead? Can I just sprinkle grass seed over the leaves? What should I do? Thank you for any suggestions. In happier news, my seeds arrived from Seed Savers Exchange yesterday! This weekend I'm getting my little peat pots and starting my tomatoes, and peas inside. So excited. :D
