We bought our house in November and much of the garden we inherited is lovely except the previous owner wrapped a lot of the bush and shrub roots in plastic (i.e., the hydrangeas). Personally, I hate this. What I’ve discovered is that when it gets really hot and humid out, the hydrangeas get droopy, even with frequent waterings. Also, it’s just about mid-July and our hydrangeas are just starting to get flowers now. My friends’ and neighbors’ hydrangeas are in full bloom already. Is this due to the plastic? Should we remove the plastic? If so, when is the best time to do this: summer or fall? TIA.
