I am so proud of myself right now because I just made a cake with fondant icing. One of my best friends is getting married next year and I really wanted to do something to help her out. So, I decided to try my hand at making a cake with rolled fondant icing to see if I could make her a wedding cake. She had said she just wanted a simple one tier cake, just to have and to do the cake cutting with. Well, here is how it turned out!
First layer, white fondant. I had a few issues with the corners, but I think it looks pretty good.
Second layer, started with the blue ribbon…
Then I added the bow. Except I had trouble getting it to stay up; hence, the water bottle lids.
Finally, I added some polka dots. I am not sure if they are too much or if they add extra whimsy.
Anyway, I think the whole thing experience was a good one. A few problems I had were with the corners becoming exposed, the icing sugar that I used to keep it from sitting to the counter actually staying on the fondant so it looks all powdery, and as previously mentioned, the bow looking lifeless without the help of the water bottle lids. If anyone has any suggestions, I would great appreciate it!
