My husband and I bought our house a little over a year ago. One of the things we loved about the yard, is the lilac bushes on two sides of our back yard. They're huge and gorgeous. At least they were. This morning, my neighbor to the east came knocking on the front door and told me to look in my back yard immediately. (She can see my back yard from her kitchen window.) The neighbors on the west were cutting down all the lilac bushes, without even talking to us about it.
I ran out and made them stop, and immediately drafted a letter to the effect that they need to get a survey done and prove that these are their bushes before cutting them down, but most of the damage is already done. Everything but the very tops of the bushes is gone. They've been butchered so badly that we may just let the neighbors finish the job. We're already planning to replace them, but with how late in the season it is in Minnesota we're going to have to wait until next year to plant, and it will take years for the new bushes to get as big as these are/were.
